Redbud Writing Project WRITING THE PROSE POEM Classes

Saturday, March 18, 2023 - 3:00p m - 5:00 pm (click here to register)

In this six-week class for writers of fiction, memoir, or poetry, we will explore the prose poem - digging into the history, discussing how the prose poem has been defined and redefined, and playing with the possibilities presented by this form. We will look into what differentiates the prose poem from flash fiction/memoir and play around with the "hermit crab" form. We will read poets who have worked in this form, such as Gertrude Stein, Czeslaw Milosz, and Amy Lowell as well as more contemporary work. Participants can expect to generate a series of new poems and will workshop them individually or as a collection.
