Redbud Writing Project EXPERIMENTAL MEMOIR Classes

Monday, March 27, 2023 - 5:30 - 7:30 pm (click here to register)

There’s nothing quite like trying to tell your own story to make you question the concepts of memory and truth. Memoir lends itself to experimenting with form. There are memoirs that play around with the truth to get to the truth, memoirs that call themselves novels, memoirs in poetic form. In this class we will read excerpts from contemporary experimental memoirs, do creativity-boosting writing exercises in class. Students are invited to use these readings and exercises to enrich a work-in-progress or to generate new material for future projects. Among the authors from whose books we will read excerpts: Bleuets by Maggie Nelson, Death is a Mother, by Ocean Vuong, Revenge of the Scapegoat, by Carin Belin, In the Dream House by Carmen Machado, and many more.
