I loved everything about Grace - her anger, her vulnerability, and especially her utterly believable relationship with her daughter. Wish I had more than one madcap day to spend with her wandering the streets of London, heartbroken but defiant, seeking vengeance for all the overlooked & underappreciated middle-aged mothers who were once, in the eyes of society, amazing. --Maggie

Kate Atkinson is the most clever and emotionally manipulating writer working today. Her unforgettable characters find their way into your hearts before wandering off to their shocking conclusions. It's pure brilliance, every time. --Maggie

A deeply satisfying work of historical fiction, Jiles' depth of character development and world building is hard to beat. This was one of those books I didn't want to end, the storytelling is tip-top. I strongly recommend this for fans of historical fiction, especially set in the American West or really anyone who wants to hear a good story. --Jamie F.

In times like these, art's what gets us through. In North Woods, Mason meets us head-on: our fear of change, our place in nature, what it is we owe to the ancestors. It'll be compared to The Overstory but its similarity to Lincoln in the Bardo--the stories of those who came before us--is what it recalls. That said: Mason's his own man and his own master and doesn't really need to be compared to anyone at all. He sits, at the top of the mountain, with the those to whom we give our eternal thanks for books we love. --Erica
I loved it and now I miss it. Totally wonderful. As ever, thank you to NYBR books, this time for bringing Boyt to the USA. What an extraordinary treasure this book is. Like a more accessible Ducks, Newburyport, this gorgeous novel's emotional flow is like breaking waves: the excitement and desperation and trauma and passion and pain and hatred and yearning and pity and adoration that mothers have for daughters. While I'd never say that this book is for women, I'm happy to say that this book is about women. I loved it extremely. --Erica

You know those post-apocalyptic-type books with the kid and their posse of messed up adults? This is that, but a western, and with demons. Bloody, comedic, and an all around good time. --Jamie K.
