Brought to California from the Philippines at age twelve, his border is not a wall or a fence but an ocean. This should be required reading for all "Americans"
Hunger is an honest account of Roxane Gay's life, her suffering, and her survival. For anyone up to the challenge of sitting down with what Roxane Gay says is the most difficult thing she has ever done.
Janet Mock's first book taught me how to forgive my parents, this book taught me how to forgive myself. Her writing is honest, in-depth and accessible. I can't recommend this book enough. Warning: It may break your heart.
I don't know what surprised me more about this book, how far Ron Stallworth was able to fool the KKK or how genuinely hilarious his account of this investigation is. The most inspiring book about doing that odd thing you love with all your heart. Beautiful, meditative and incredibly endearing.
