Voice Rising reading series featuring Randal O'Wain, Michelle Dove, Larissa Wood, and Claire Allegra Sorrenson
Please join us for the second installment of Voice Rising, a new and exciting reading event presented at and in conjunction with Flyleaf Books.
In Voice Rising, we pair a small slate of hand-picked, local writers, be they unpublished, lesser-known or on the brink of a bigger stage, and partner with one of our area's myriad renowned writers for a truly unique evening.
With each writer reading unpublished work for ten minutes followed by a crowd Q&A, Voice Rising is putting a local spin on your beloved bookshop readings.
Our next event will feature local writers Michelle Dove, Larissa Wood and Claire Sorrenson paired with renowned writer Randal O'Wain.
Randal O'Wain holds an MFA from Iowa's Nonfiction Writing Program. Currently, he teaches creative writing at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His essays and short stories have appeared in Oxford American, Guernica, The Pinch, and Booth, among others. He has just completed two manuscripts: Superman Dam[n] Fool: essays on loss, family, and coming of age in the working class south, as well as Hallelujah Station and Other Stories.
Michelle Dove is the author of Radio Cacophony and recent writing that appears in Hobart, Entropy and The Awl. She lives in Durham, NC, where she works and teaches in the English Department at Duke. Heart & Drone, her weekly radio show on WHUP-FM in Hillsborough, features recordings of poets alongside elongated and repetitious sounds.
Larissa Wood is a senior at UNC Chapel Hill from Asheville, NC. She is studying biology, education, and creative writing, and enjoys reading and writing fiction in her free time.
Claire Allegra Sorrenson is a speculative fiction writer based in Durham, North Carolina. She writes about love, power, aliens, loneliness, and ghosts - not always in that order, and not usually all at once. Visit her at claireallegra.com.
