Join us for an evening of fun as we celebrate our local literary community with Regal House Publishing! The event will feature two of their award-winning authors, Marjorie Hudson and Valerie Nieman, reading from their most recent books.

Marjorie Hudson came to the South 30 years ago and immediately fell in love – with whippoorwills, farm fields, her husband Sam, and her new community. Her work has won accolades and fellowships all over the country, but her activism and teaching in Chatham County keep her feet on the ground. Her other books include Searching for Virginia Dare and Accidental Birds of the Carolinas. Her debut novel Indigo Field explores what happens when the dire history buried in a rural Southern place rises to confront contemporary neighbors. Sue Monk Kidd calls it “mesmerizing” and “redemptive.” Minrose Gwin calls it “among the best of contemporary Southern fiction."

Valerie Nieman's novel In the Lonely Backwater, winner of the 2022 Sir Walter Raleigh Award, is being called “not only a page-turning thriller but also a complex psychological portrait of a young woman dealing with guilt, betrayal, and secrecy.” Her previous novel, To the Bones, was a finalist for the 2020 Manly Wade Wellman Award, joining three earlier novels, a short fiction collection, and three poetry books, the most recent being Leopard Lady: A Life in Verse. A graduate of West Virginia University and Queens University of Charlotte, she has held state and NEA fellowships and is professor emerita of creative writing at NC A&T State University.

Pam Van Dyk is the managing editor of Regal House Publishing, and she serves on the Advocacy Committee of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA). She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte and a PhD in Education Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University. She is the recipient of the 2019 Rose Post Creative Nonfiction Award, and a selection of her work has appeared online and in print in the Maine Review, Outrider Press, Flying South, Peregrine, Crack the Spine, Women on Writing, and other literary publications.
