Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading & Open Mic

Featured Poets:   Tanya Olson & Mark Smith-Soto

This monthly reading series is co-hosted by Stan Absher and Debra Kaufman and sponsored by Flyleaf Books.  An informal get-together before the reading will begin around 6pm at the Chapel Hill Foster’s, next door to Flyleaf. Please join the group for an hour of conversation. Featured readers will each read for approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign books, there will be an open mic. Please sign up to read no later than 7 pm.

This month’s featured  poets:

Tanya Olson lives in Durham, North Carolina, and teaches at Vance-Granville Community College. Her first book, Boyishly, was published by YesYes Books in 2013. In 2010, she won the Discovery/Boston Review Prize and was named a 2011 Emerging Voices Fellow by the Lambda Literary Foundation.

Mark Smith-Soto is Professor of Spanish and editor of International Poetry Review at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has published three prize-winning chapbooks and two full-length poetry collections. His poetry, which has been nominated three times for a Pushcart Prize and won him an NEA Fellowship in Creative Writing (2006), has appeared in Antioch Review, Kenyon Review, Literary Review, Nimrod, The Sun and many other publications. His most recent works are Fever Season, the selected poetry of Costa Rican writer Ana Istarú (Unicorn Press, 2010); Berkeley Prelude: A Lyrical Memoir (Unicorn Press, 2012); and the chapbook Splices, just out from Finishing Line Press.
