Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading & Open Mic feat. Barbara Conrad & Joseph Bathanti

Thu 6/13 7pm-8:30pm

Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading & Open Mic

Featured Poets:

Barbara Conrad’s new collection of poetry, Wild Plums, was published this year by FutureCycle Press. These poems, writes Susan Meyers, “are like eloquent love letters to human goodness and idiosyncrasy.” Ms. Conrad is author of the chapbook The Gravity of Color and editor of Waiting for Soup, an anthology of poems and stories from her creative writing class with the homeless in Charlotte. She plays West African drums and supports environmental sustainability.

North Carolina Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti is the award-winning author of seven books of poetry, two novels, and a collection of stories. His most recent poetry collection is Sonnets of the Cross. East Liberty won the 2001 Carolina Novel Award, and Coventry won the 2006 Novello Literary Award. His book of stories, The High Heart, won the 2006 Spokane Prize. He is also the recipient of Literature Fellowships from the North Carolina Arts Council in poetry and fiction, the Sherwood Anderson Award, the Linda Flowers Prize, and many other awards.

An informal get-together before the reading will begin around 6:00 pm at Foster’s, next door to Flyleaf Books.

Featured readers will each read for approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign books, there will be an open poetry mic. Please sign up to read no later than 6:45 pm.
