All-Family Storytime and Book Drive for SafeSchoolsNC!
Saturday 8/22, 2pm
A community reading event in support of SafeSchoolsNC
Join us for a storytime event featuring Meg Goodhand, educator and president of SafeSchoolsNC! SafeSchoolsNC is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to creating a safe and positive learning environment for all students and educators in North Carolina, with an emphasis on actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity. Board members from SafeSchoolsNC including Dr. Goodhand will read from a selection of books for children featuring themes that support diversity in gender identity and sexual orientation and anti-bullying messages. All titles will be available for purchase and donation to local schools and teachers to help promote awareness and a diverse inclusive curriculum in schools. The books will be dispersed at the 1st annual SafeSchools Conference in November.
This is an all-ages event and we encourage families to come together to support SafeSchoolsNC and our local schools! Our community readers will read primarily from picture books but may also share short excerpts from books for middle grade readers. We hope to have you join us to learn about SafeSchoolsNC and the array of diverse books for children available for all readers.
