Fall 2021: WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY HIRING but please read below to be put in the queue if anything changes:
We don’t typically hire seasonal help—summer, winter, etc.—but we’re always taking applications and when a spot opens up we go to the applications on file first. We are always looking for folks who are able work nights and weekends on regular basis.
Special consideration is given to folks who have prior bookstore work experience and a knowledge of and interest in children's books and bookselling. We welcome folks with diverse backgrounds and identities as well.
Bookselling is a customer-oriented, detail-driven, and sometimes physically demanding job, as a bookseller spends most of the day on their feet. Employees must be adaptable and self-starting—the nature of the job requires booksellers to take on any number of roles depending on need.
We receive advance copies of new books, and employees are expected to read these forthcoming titles and be comfortable recommending books to customers of all ages—adults, young adults, and children. We know that staff members have individual reading tastes, and we encourage you to read what you like, but we also expect our staff members to read beyond their typical comfort zones so as to better serve a variety of customers.
