Used Books Buying Info

November 20th, 2017: We're taking our annual hiatus from accepting used books. We will start taking used books for store credit again on January 1st. We look forward to seeing your used books in the new year!

Flyleaf Books Used Book Trading Guidelines

We give store credit or half the credit amount in cash.  You can spend the credit right away or we can write it up on a credit slip for you. There is no expiration date for the credit.

We are happy to take a look at what you have. If there are a lot, stop in and we can take a look at the books in your car (staff allowing) so you don’t have to lug them all in.  Or, you can bring some samples in and we can tell you what we think.  Ultimately, though we have to see the actual books so bring good representations.

TIME: Best times are before 6pm on weekdays, but any day usually if you avoid lunchtime (12-2pm) or when we’re starting up an event (often 7pm weekdays, check our calendar at www.flyleafbooks.com ) we can help you right away. We are open 9am-9pm Mon-Sat, 11am-6pm Sunday. Again, check the website for seasonal hours.

WHAT WE BUY:

  • We are primarily interested in paperback fiction, memoir and biography in good condition
  • We take hardcovers of popular new books only (published within the last 3 months)
  • We take all genres of gently used children’s and young adult books
  • We will look at but take less of popular paperback non-fiction genres like business, regional, and to a lesser degree travel and cooking
  • We do not take textbooks, rare books or more dated/less popular nonfiction genres

We aren’t able to take books that are water damaged, underlined, more than gently worn and have smoke, mold, pet or other odors.

We don’t buy rare books or textbooks. Best bet for any rare books would be Wentworth & Leggett in Durham and UNC Student Stores/Bull’s Head Bookshop for textbooks.

WHAT TO DO WITH WHAT WE DON’T TAKE: You can donate children’s and young adult books to Book Harvest, a drop off bin is here at Flyleaf. You can also donate any books to PTA Thrift Shop in Carrboro or Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library shop in Chapel Hill.   All of these locations can give you a tax receipt.

Let us know if you have any questions. Main store number is 919-942-7373  and someone can help you at info@flyleafbooks.com during weekdays.
