Death at the White Camellia Orphanage (fiction) & The Throne of Psyche (poetry)

Marly Youmans will be reading from two new books, starting with her 2011 book of poems, The Throne of Psyche, called "wholly beautiful and brilliant" with "an otherness only Coleridge attained" by The Baton Rouge Advocate.

She will follow with her 2012 novel, the inaugural winner of The Ferrol Sams Award for Fiction (Mercer University Press.) Writer Lucius Shepard said of the book, "A Death at the White Camellia Orphanage tells of a young boy's travels through the black heart of Depression America and his search for light both metaphorical and real.Writing with a controlled lyrical passion, Marly Youmans has crafted the finest, and the truest period novel I've read in years."

Marly Youmans is the author of nine books that include novels, poetry collections, and several Southern fantasies for young adults. Her awards include The Michael Shaara Award for The Wolf Pit (Farrar, Straus & Giroux) and The Ferrol Sams Award for her most recent book, A Death at the White Camellia Orphanage (Mercer University Press.)  A former Chapel Hill and Carrboro resident, she has been called a poet "of astonishing skill" by Kim Bridgford, poet and director of the West Chester Conference, and "the best-kept secret among contemporary American writers" by the editor of Books & Culture Magazine. http://thepalaceat2.blogspot.com
