Main Street Rag Publishing Company have joined together  as the newest location for the Main Street Rag Reading Series.  Every Second Thursday at 7pm, co-hosts Debra Kaufman and Stan Absher will start the evening by introducing two of our authors as featured readers, followed by an Open Mic.  Readers, writers and appreciators of poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction are invited to join in.

Anne Clinard Barnhill has been writing or dreaming of writing for most of her life. For the past twenty years, she has published articles, book and theater reviews, poetry, and short stories. Her first book, At Home In the Land of Oz, recalls what it was like growing up with an autistic sister. Her work has won various awards and grants. Barnhill holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from UNC- Wilmington. Besides writing, Barnhill also enjoys teaching, conducting writing workshops, and facilitating seminars to enhance creativity.  She will read from her new collection of stories What You Long For.

Stan Absher says: “I've been an offset  printer, missionary, bank teller, janitor, consultant, and collector of quotations, sold mutual funds, surveyed scrub timberland, and taught freshman English. I currently work in corporate compliance and ethics. He will be reading from his chapbook, The Burial of Anyce Shepherd.

The Main Street Rag Publishing Company, a bindery and a publisher based in Charlotte, has published a quarterly print magazine since 1996. Among its features are poetry, short fiction, photography and graphic images, essays, interviews, reviews, cartoons and commentary.  MSR also publishes poetry through their annual chapbook and full-length poetry collection contests.  They also help writers self-publish their works; from design, layout and printing to shipping the books out.
