The Kitchen Table Series: End of Life Planning

Have you had "The Conversation"? What I mean is, have you and your family been able to discuss end of life preferences, or is there always one of a dozen reasons that seem to get in the way? Come and participate in a cultural movement with one basic goal: to help every person think about and communicate what they want at the end of life so that family members and health care providers have guidance to respect those wishes. Learn to have a conversation around the kitchen table and avoid a discussion in an ICU waiting room when family members are often unprepared for critical decisions.

Karen Metzguer, RN, a recently retired professor from UNC School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, spent 5 years on the UNC Hospitals Ethics Committee, and has helped countless families with end of life discussions.
