Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading and Open Mic, featuring Valerie Nieman and Richard Krawiec

Second Thursdays 7pm-8:30pm

Two featured poets  will each read for approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign books, there will be a poetry open mic. Please sign up to read no later than 6:45 pm. Each open mic reader will be limited to no more than a page of poetry. There’s an informal get-together before the reading at 6:30pm next door at Root Cellar.

Richard Krawiec's third book of poems, Women Who Loved me Despite (Press 53) is just out. He has published work in Drunken Boat, Shenandoah, sou'wester, Dublin Review, Chautauqua Literary Journal, and is a recipient of Creative Writing Fellowships from the NEA and NC Arts Council. Krawiec has published two novels, a story collection, and four plays. He is founder of Jacar Press, a Community Active publishing company.

 

Valerie Nieman's second poetry collection, Hotel Worthy, was published in spring 2015 by Press 53, which also published her debut collection, Wake Wake Wake. She was a 2013-2014 North Carolina Arts Council poetry fellow, and has received an NEA creative writing fellowship in poetry as well as major grants in West Virginia and Kentucky. Her awards include the Greg Grummer, Nazim Hikmet, and Byron Herbert Reece poetry prizes.
