Caregiver Resources Event: Caring for Seniors
An opportunity for caregivers to hear about resources they might find useful. Three Triangle authors will present their books about care giving, activities for loved ones with Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia, and personal journeys through the healthcare systems. Come meet other caregivers while learning about a variety of resources available to help. Enjoy light refreshments and new friendships. Come relax and enjoy the evening. Authors:
Tiffany Christensen was born with cystic fibrosis and has had two double lung transplants to save her life. After a lifetime with chronic and terminal illnesses, Tiffany is now grateful to be an author and national public speaker. She is passionate about bringing her message of advocacy, acceptance and hope to patients, families, students and healthcare professionals. Her books are Sick Girl Speaks and We are the Change: Transforming the Healthcare Experience through Partnership
LaVerne Z. Coan: Like most family caregivers, LaVerne trained on the job, caring for her mother for 5 years over a distance of 250 miles and an emotional distance that seemed longer. A caregiver, an award-winning author and a librarian, LaVerne published her first eldercare book and launched Parentcare 101, a web-based business which promotes a healthy balance of caring and thriving through good information. Her book is Caring for a Distant Parent: Tips from Daughters and Sons Who’ve Cared
Rae-Lyn Ziegler is an occupational therapist with a specialty certification in sensory integration. Ms. Ziegler has worked with both adults and children in a variety of settings. She created her book for her mother who had Alzheimer’s: Let’s Look Together An Interactive Picture Book for People with Alzheimer’s And Other Forms of Memory Loss and is a resource tool to empower the individual family member or professional care giver to maintain a loving, and communicative social relationship with the person who is challenged by memory loss or other cognitive issues. The book is a failure-free way to sit side-by-side and spend quality time together.
