Flyleaf Poetry
Reading & Open Mic Series (2nd Thursdays)
Featured
Poets: Robert Hill Long & Aaron Belz
This monthly
reading series is co-hosted by Stan Absher and Debra Kaufman and sponsored by
Flyleaf Books. An informal get-together before the reading will begin
around 5:45 at the Chapel Hill Foster’s, next door to Flyleaf. Please join the
group for an hour of conversation. Featured readers will each read for
approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign
books, there will be an open mic. Please sign up to read no later than 7
pm.
This month’s featured poets:
Robert Hill Long's latest poetry collection is Walking Wounded, which traces “the
tragedies and ironies of war, conquest, famine, death but … redeems with images
of resolution and hope.” A Wilmington native and former director of the North
Carolina Writers’ Network, Long has lived in western Oregon for many years. He
has four earlier books of poems, most recently The Kilim Dreaming.
Aaron Belz’s latest collection of poems is Lovely, Raspberry. His poems have been
described as “impressive, loopy … touched by a raw grace of mind and nimble
phrasing… often hilarious, he is also wise.” Other collections are The Bird Hoverer, Plausible Worlds, and, forthcoming, Glitter Bomb. Belz lives in Hillsborough.
